Our Story
The Lusher Private Collection, initially built by Ted Lusher over several decades, features a wide variety of materials that document the southwestern border areas of the United States and adjacent parts of Mexico. We have a deep interest in the history of early America and the Southwestern states. Our approach is to view this region from the Mexican and the United States perspectives, with one looking to the North and the other looking South. We cover a timeline stretching over an impressive 400 years, from 1550 to 1980, allowing you to explore the intricate details of each treasured artifact. Our contemporary collectibles derive from rich culture, primarily of Taos artists, or elaborately designed craftsmanship inspired by vintage artifacts. At Lusher Fine Art, we are passionate about sharing the history and beauty of the Old West through meticulous attention to proportion and quality. Our extraordinary mission is to discover and learn more about American history and its rich culture. Each unique piece we acquire tells a story, and we search to uncover artifacts that correlate with other pieces within a collection. The enhancement of the Lusher Private Collection began with the acquisition of Captain Ranger Alfred Y. Allee’s revolver, a detailed firearm featuring an engraved horn handle, set rubies, and a gold barrel. The revolver, paired with Allee’s manuscripts, Ranger documentation, and badge, creates a complete collectible. The ensemble marked the start of our premium collection. We want to enhance your collection and ours.
The Condition of items is most important. We take immense pride in offering items in exceptional condition, ensuring that each piece we present has been meticulously evaluated for authenticity and value. Our processing includes standard expert evaluations to reveal the true worth of our pieces, because we prioritize the condition and authenticity of items above all else. Our goal is to provide you with rare treasures that will elevate your collection and bring a piece of history to you.
Chris Lusher is particularly fascinated with vaqueros, cowboys, and rangers. Thus, his interest in saddles, bridles, and vintage firearms. He has studied the early rangers and the lifestyle of old cowboys. Chris is committed to sharing the Texas Longhorns' vital role in establishing the cattle industry and the state's history. His dedication extends beyond mere facts; he cares deeply for this unique breed. Chris has raised Texas Longhorns on Lusher Ranches and has mastered the art of befriending his cattle, allowing him to feed some by hand. He cautions, however, that even the most domesticated are still dangerous because they are unaware of their horns and may accidentally harm someone. Chris shares his love for the Texas Longhorns with his family and encourages others to admire their beauty.
Chris’s interests extend to the discovery and documentation of ranchers, vaqueros, trail drivers, wranglers, and cowhands who rounded up wild Longhorns and drove them to the Kansas railheads. As cattle-keeping gained popularity, the demand for spurs increased, leading to prison-made spurs. Colorado Canyon City Prison and Texas Huntsville Prison delivered exquisite handcrafted spurs, each with a unique VIN. In his free time, Mr. Lusher occasionally researches the backstories of these prison-made spurs by tracing their VINs.
The Lusher's have long enjoyed collecting, and eventually, Chris decided to start selling some. While successful in the White Hawk shows and other Western and Native American events, he realized there could be a more efficient way to share collectibles. Hauling valuables around made items susceptible to damage, so we first looked to more local options/answers. Chris observed that auctions, particularly in the Santa Fe area, were monopolized and maintained high seller fees and profit percentages/margins.
Resolving the issue with his own hands, Chris Lusher opened his own auction center for Western American collectibles. As our business grows, we expect to lower our fees even more!
