Anasazi Mesa Verde Black-on-White Kiva Jar with Lid, Ca 1100 - 1280
A superb example of Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) pottery from the Pueblo III period, this authentic Mesa Verde Black-on-white kiva jar exhibits classic form and design elements. The olla (storage jar) features a pronounced, globular body and a restricted neck, characteristic of vessels used for storage within kivas and pithouses in the Four Corners region.
The top half of the exterior is covered with bold, black geometric patterns applied with organic paint on a light gray/white slip, organized in distinct horizontal bandscorations include dense hatching, cross-hatching, stepped motifs, and chevrons. Ca 1100 - 1280
