Prehistoric Anasazi Mesa Verde Black-on-White Pottery Mug, ca. 1100ñ1300 AD
An example of Ancestral Puebloan pottery artistry from the Mesa Verde region. This coil-formed black-on-white mug, crafted between 1100 and 1300 AD, features a bold, classic geometric design. The vessel showcases a thick white slip applied over a reddish-brown pottery body, which is then meticulously decorated with mineral paint to produce the vibrant black pattern.
The mug is distinguished by its classic cylindrical shape and a gracefully applied strap handle. While exhibiting some partial erosion around the rim consistent with its significant age, the piece is otherwise largely intact, a testament to the durability of ancient Puebloan craftsmanship. This artifact offers a tangible link to the sophisticated ceramic tradition of the Mesa Verde culture.
