Pair of Santa Clara Blackware Pottery

Two signed pieces of traditional blackware pottery from Santa Clara Pueblo by recognized 20th-century artists Belen Tapia and Birdell Bourdon. Each is hand-coiled and stone-polished to a beautiful metallic sheen using time-honored Pueblo firing techniques.
A) An elegant blackware pottery jar featuring deeply carved designs, likely created through the intricate sgraffito or carving process. The surface is meticulously polished to a high, reflective finish that emphasizes the contrast between the incised and burnished areas. Incised to underside: Belen Tapia/Santa Clara Pueblo with deeply carved areas
5 1/2"D, 7 5/8" H
B) A charming small blackware pottery jar with a beautiful, intricate geometric pattern. Created using traditional coiling and firing methods, this piece is a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of Santa Clara potters. Bourdon is mentioned in several publications on Native American pottery. "Birdell Santa Clara Reservation New Mexico 1991"
