Prehistoric Anasazi Mesa Verde Black-on-White Mug, ca. 1100ñ1300 AD
An exceptional example of an Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) mug from the Mesa Verde region, dating to the Pueblo III period. This hand-coiled ceramic vessel showcases the classic Mesa Verde black-on-white typology. The white slip background provides a striking contrast to the carefully applied black carbon-based paint. The design features a complex geometric pattern, including interlocking meander and kiva-step motifs, skillfully executed by the artisan. The mug is intact and in excellent condition for its age. Minor pigment abrasion consistent with ancient use and burial has occurred.
