Katsina Auction Catalog (Print Edition)
The printed catalog for Lusher Fine Art’s October 24, 2026 auction of 69 lots from the studio of Alan Charles Kessler, one of the most respected dealers, collectors, and appraisers in American Indian art.
Kessler’s career spans more than five decades, from Bond Street in New York to his longtime gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. He wrote Collecting Kachina Dolls 1880–1940 and is a founding member of ATADA. This sale reflects his eye. It centers on historic Hopi and Zuni katsinas made between about 1890 and 1940, including early figures such as Heheya, the Uncle Katsina, and Mosairu, the Black Buffalo Katsina. It also includes Navajo ingot silver, including a First Phase Concho belt from the 1870s–80s, and a Hopi woven shirt.
Each lot is photographed in full color and includes the title, date, and estimate. Bidders can use it to plan for the sale, and after the auction, it stays useful as a reference to a single-owner collection assembled by a leading specialist in the field.
