Sioux Beaded and Quilled Pipe Bag, Ca 1880s-90s

The bag is constructed out of native tanned hide, sinew sewn along beaded opening with dyed porcupine quills. Opening consists of white, pink, navy and red beads. The base panel is decorated with naturally dyed porcupine quills in red and natural color geometric symbols. Beneath the base panel, there are quill wrapped hide slats which are decorated with quillwork. Beneath the slats is fringe. Minimal quill loss. 27"l x 7 1/2"w, Ca. 1880s-90s
