Early 20th Century Navajo Crystal Pictorial Rug
A finely hand-woven Navajo textile, identified as a classic example of the Crystal style. This pictorial rug features a complex, symmetrical geometric pattern utilizing natural, handspun wool in shades of grey-tan, black, and cream. The design centers on two large octagonal motifs, flanked by hooked elements (frets) and striking arrow/feather designs, a common motif in this regional style. The entire composition is finished with a traditional stepped border of cream and black. The aesthetic is characteristic of the weavings popularized by traders around the turn of the century.
